lip butter

It’s like Buttah!

It’s winter, and my skin is dry dry dry.  In fact, it’s a bit like the Sarah.  It’s been cold and windy here in San Francisco, and the first thing to feel it are my lips.  Cracked, dry and miserable, I needed help!

Enter the IT Cosmetics  Vitality Lip Flush Lip Butters.  Oh la la!  Now, I have lip products galore:  lip balm, lip butter, lip stick, lip treatments.  But I don’t always want to put a greasy lip balm on if I’m going out, or getting ready for my day.

Now, I am a bit fan of the full color (though sheer and buildable) IT Cosmetics Vitality Lip Flush Lipstick Stain, and have been known to wear them to bed to keep my lips moist, these go one step further. These lovelies are perfect, when you want a hint of color as well as a treatment.

The Lip Butters are infused with plum oil, cherry oil, shea butter, aloe and jojoba – all known to be super moisturizer for your pucker.  These sheer butters give a sheer wash of color, while treating and providing hydration.  As always, IT brings innovation and anti-aging in this product, packed with anti oxidants like vitamins A, C and E as well as acai, green tea and white tea.  All of these things work together to provide a powerhouse of moisturizer, anti aging protection.  And of course, they are paraben free, and are made in the USA so you can feel good about buying them.

I have two in my purse right now, as well as Je Ne Sais Quoi Lip Stain and I’m ready to go!  I love most things IT, but these are really special.  They smell good, taste good, are another must have product in my lip arsenal.  I expect I’ll be using these a lot this winter!

For more color, you can layer these over each other, or under your favorite IT Lip Stain as well!  Try Pillow under Damsel or Pretty Woman.  It’s fun!

The Lip Butters are available at for $20 each, or as a set of three on QVC for $35

It’s like buttah!

Ahh lip butter.  It brings to mind images of Body Shop body butter, chapstick, and other super moisturizing products.  Often times, these things leave a waxy feeling on your body, but not the case with these Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters!

The lip products, which retail for $7-9, are part of Revlon’s Colorburst line of lip products.  After reading and watching the hype by my fellow beauty bloggers, I was so intrigued, I had to pick some of these up.  Normally, I am not a drugstore brand girl, but given that my top blogger brethren were raving about them, I went out to find them.

Well, let me just tell you.  Here in the SF Bay Area, they are veryi difficult to come by!  I started at my local Walgreens, and struck out.  So I went on to CVS and Rite Aid.  Nope.  I expanded my search to wine country, and still.  nada.  After several weeks, I finally came across the display in an Ulta.  Just the display mind you – it had been picked clean!  Fine.  So, one day on the way home from up north, I popped in a CVS in a nearby town.  MECCA!  not only did they have a semi-full display, but they were were on sale!  With this deal, I had to load up.  And load up I did.

creme brulee, pink truffle, brown sugar, candy apple, cherry tart (I think!)

Revlon promises that these lippies will hydrate you with mango, shea butter, and coconut butter.  Supposedly, that combo will make your lips 156% more moisturized.  yeah, well ok.  About that…I’m not sure they are THAT moisturized, but I will say that I love the way that these feel on my pucker.

The formula is something between a gloss and a lipstick, but truly is unlike anything I have tried.  It is a new gel formula that really does glide on buttery smooth.  Some colors are very sheet, like Creme Brulee, but others are a big pop of color.  The best part of the lip butters is that they really last.  I mean and LAST.  I haven’t’ seen a full color lip product last like that with this level of shine and moisture, well, ever.

At first, when I bought a handful I thought maybe I overdid it.  Now, I’m so glad that I did!  These have replaced my regular lip balm on all but the most chap worthy days.  My go to shade right now is Fig Jam, but that’s only because I haven’t used Brown Sugar enough yet.  These two colors are a sheer wash of a warm brown, which is great for a natural look.  I am also in love with Red Velvet, a rich deep rose red, that leaves a strong wash of color without being like a bold red lipstick.  For a statement during the day, I love this color!

The full line contains 20 shades and will be in national markets in January.  For now, you can probably find them at your local mass retailer, but you might want to hunt for them.  With my CVS haul, they were buy 1 get one 50% off, and I used some Extra Care Bucks.  I also earned $5 ECB for spending $50 on beauty.  Not a bad deal!

Revlon is making a huge leap with these products by trying to keep them as natural as possible; there are no parabens in these, which makes me super happy.  They aren’t 100% natural, but for a massive company like Revlon to go this far – and create a cult classic – I am impressed.

Now, go out and get some for yourself!  I would say they are similar in texture to the Tarte lipsurgence (not the matte) but have the staying power of the matte lipsurgences.  They are not as glossy as those products, and have more color than most of them.  For $7, you should at least try one!  The more red & pink colors are more highly pigmented, while the brown and nude shades are more sheer.  I like to layer them for fun.

The only thing that is a slight drawback sis that they are quite soft, and as you can see from the images, they nick easily.  Ah well, just a little smush with your finger and you are back in business.

Happy glossing!
