Pretty in an instant!

Hot of the presses!  Bobbi Brown has a TSV starting tonight at 9pm PT, Midnight ET!  This is the first Bobbi Brown TSV on QVC since the  Pretty Powerful kits, and it promises to be something special.

Bobbi Brown is known in the industry for her clean, neutral looks and her longstanding history as a makeup artist and frankly, teacher.  She insists on beauty at any age, and produces classic, elegant kits and products.

This kit contains:

  • Sheer Pink Color Cheek Tint, in a glowing pink
  • Pretty in Pink Lip Gloss, a sheer pink
  • Pink Lemonade Shimmer Lip Gloss, a soft pink with pearl
  • Pink Bellini Long-Wear Cream Shadow, a shimmery neutral pink
  • Black Mascara
  • Hydrating Eye Cream
  • And an face palette in your choice of Porcelain,Sand,Beige,Natural,Honey or Warm Almond.

I regret not getting the Pretty Powerful kits when they were on, but I have picked up a few of the pieces.  Bobbi’s eyeshadows are eyeliners are amazing!

I’m tempted!  What about you?  This looks like a nice, fresh kit for summer!  It’s $69.98 and Auto Delivery will ship now and in October.  Or you can order a single shipment.  Don’t forget to use ebates!

I feel the vibe!

If there is one thing I can’t resist, it’s a deal!  I’ve had my eye on this kit for a while, and when a friend was headed to a Bare Escentuals outlet, I asked her to pick it up for me.  WOWZAH!  I was lucky to hit a sale that the outlet had, making the once $35 kit from QVC (which, for two eyecolors, a blush,a nd a liner, is still a deal) about $12.  Steal!

This kit contains:

  • mini Light Show, a creamy sparkle
  • mini Smoky Violet, grey purple
  • mini B&B liner in teal, makes your eyes POP!
  • E/S size Haute Pink Blush , a bright azalea pink
  • Plumtini lipgloss, a dark cranberry, pinky beauty but very sheer.

As I said, this is a fantastic value, but more that that you can create many looks with one kit.

For this look, I started with BE foundation.  I lined my eyes in UD 24/7 liner pencil in Electric, a shocking bright blue green, over Tarte EmphasEyes in Fig.  This was my best approximation at the Teal in the kit, and I adore the way it made my eyes POP!  Today I made my own shadow liner to be a Black Sea/Teal replacement, using Crown, Utopia (which I am sad to say landed on the floor, sob!), a bit of this a bit of that.  I think I have a great dupe, since the B&B liners don’t work for me.

Next, I foiled Light Show on the lid, buffing it dry to the crease.  Finally, a touch of Smokey Violet in the crease, and Flawless Definition Volumizing Mascara to finish, with Haute Pink on the cheeks and Plumtini on the lips.
The BE Outlets are an excellent source for kits and past colors, and I highly reccomend you join Mineral Madness to have access to the stock lists.

What do I think?  BUY IT before it’s gone for good!  The shadows can go from a soft day look to a bold evening look.  The Violet can be used as a liner, or worn over a black liner for a pop of color.  The Light Show is a universal cream shimmer.  You can’t NOT have this kit.

Some items recently added were hugely popular on both QVC and at Sephora:
Gold Rush Kit, Naturally Luminoius, Brush with Genius.

Happy shopping!  I mean glossing…

Feeling Fiendish

I hate to admit it, but I don’t even watch True Blood.  But when I saw this collection come out, I knew I had to have it – because I am a True Believer.  In tarte that is!

Tarte Cosmetics was founded in 1999 by Maureen Kelly, who wanted to find healthy, good for you and fabulous cosmetics.  With its high performance naturals, no parabens, phthalates, or other unpronounceables, I love that tarte is good for you and good for the earth.

This collection is simploy stunning.  With 17 full size shadows in a rather Jean Paul Gaultier-esqe leather case all laced up, i’ts a steal at $52 (normally 10 pan palettes are $44).  Included in the kit are a trial size lifted natural eye primer, a full size blacker than black emphasEYES aqua gel liner, and a mini lights, camera, lashes mascara.  Have I mentioned that this is my go to mascara right now?  Love it!  These little beauties include the Amazonian Clay in the shadows, and they work double duty healing and treating as they beautify you.

These colors, like all in the tarte line, are packed with pigment, and rich and creamy, gliding on the skin.  My only fault with them is that, like many pressed powders, you waste a lot of product because they are quite loosely packed, and one swipe releases entirely too much shadow from the pan.  I feel like I will wear through these very quickly because there is too much waste.

However, while wearing them, VA VA VOOM!  I went for a toned down vampy look today at the office:

Starting with Maracuja Concealer in Medium, I spot concealed some less than desirables.  This product is ridiculously full coverage.  I think the color is a bit off for me, and I might switch it up to light for my next TSV (Glow your Way to Gorgeous QVC link and REVIEW).  This is a point of contention for me, because the medium foundation is the right shade, and the shade of the other concealer – Calming Concealer – that I use is light.  But more on that later.

I also used a touch of Calming Concealer in light around my eyes, because I wanted to test them against each other.  The Maracuja concealer is both creaseless as it promises, but all full full full coverage.  The calming concealer is more like a foundation stick and has little staying power or coverage.  Too bad.

NExt up, the Full Coverage Amazonian Clay Foundation from the 8th Wonder TSV, dotted on, then blended with the famous brush to get that airbrushed look.  I finished my face with Smooth Operator finishing powder.  I love the powder for the poreless airbrushed finish, but I must say I am disappointed it did little to control the oil well on my nose.  For that I rely more on Mally’s Poreless Face Defender, since a little dab’ll do ya for hours.

On the eyes, I started with the lifted natural eye primer with Firmitol eye primer to lock those shadows on.  I am still playing with tarte’s other primer, the Amazonian Clay Eye Base, but I think lifted has won this celebrity death match round.

First up, Dusk from last to crease, a medium beige flesh tone, with Fairy, a pale pink frost, to highlight.  Glamour Me, an intense purple went in the crease and outer V, blended out with Dusk and followed by Werewolf, a deeper brown.  I used Urban Decay Corrupt to line – my all time favorte brown bronze liner – and lights, camera, lashes to complete the look.

On my cheeks, I used Park Avenue Princess bronzer to shape my face, followed by Blushing Bride Amazonian Clay 12-hr blush and let me just tell you, a TINY bit goes a HUGE way!  I packed on a bit too much and had to dust it off a bit.  This is a deep dark rose color that gives you a gorgeous summery flush if you use it right.

On my lips, I started with Lipsurgence matte in Envy, a nice rose color, followed by True Blood Red.  I cna’t tell you how much I adore these!  Envy, and all the mattes, stay on for hours without drying my ilps out.  The shiny lipsurgences don’t have much staying power but feel fantstic on and look great.

All in all, this is a huge value, and I suggest you run to your nearest Sephora, or order on line at Tarte before they are gone.  Otherwise, you might have to take a bite out of someone…

Happy glossing!

Perfect in green

Today, I am wearing the third installment of the Holiday 2011 Auto Delivery Collection from Bare Escentuals, The Perfect Gift.  In this shipment, you will get, in that cute little hatbox:

  • Tinted Hydrating Mineral Veil
  • Appreciate Blush
  • Enjoy Eyecolor, a golden yellow chiffon
  • Savor Eyecolor, a deep sage shimmer
  • Big & Bright eyeliner in Bronze
  • Flawless Definition Volumizing Mascara in black
  • Pretty Amazing Lipcolor in Courage, a warm strawberry and one of my favorite PAs.

I don’t use the B&B liners, so that was tossed in my swap bin right away.

On my face:

  • Too Faced Primed & Poreless
  • BE Original in Light
  • Summer Bisque as concealer
  • Faux Tan to contour
  • tarte natural eye primer
  • blush and eye colors from the kit
  • Buxom Suede Lashliner
  • tarte Amazonian Clay liner in Shimmering Sage (I think!)
  • Buxom Amplified Mascara
  • Pretty Amazing lin Courage
  • Brandi Buxom

With my golden fair skin and blue eyes, I wasn’t sure that the green tones would for me.  Happily, I love the gold and the green is a nice accent color.

I foiled the Enjoy all over the lid, and buffed it out with Enjoy dry to just above the crease.  Using a small brush, I applied Savor in the crease.  For liner, I started with Buxom Suede lashliner, followed by the sage tarte liner, finishing off with the Amplifed mascara.  I love the way it brings out my eyes!

What do YOU think of PG3?

A Glowing tarte

If you have read my blog at all, or my facebook posts, you know that it’s no secret that I love tarte cosmetics.  I love everything about them, from the cheek stains to the Amazonian clay blushes.

Recently, I was lucky enough to pick up a new kit from QVC on preorder, which has more delicious goodies in it!  This kit won’t be on the air until this weekend, but the Glow Your Way to Gorgeous Collection is – just – gorgeous!

The Glow Collection contains:

What is it: An eight-piece color collection featuring waterproof and long-wearing must-haves designed to give you everything you need to glow your way to gorgeous as you discover the skin-balancing benefits of tarte’s blend of Amazonian clay and nature’s miracle–pure maracuja oil.

With this convenient Auto-Delivery plan, receive your first set promptly, with new sets in seasonal colors arriving in October 2011 and February 2012, for a total of three shipments, as long as you remain in the program.

This kit contains:

  • Maracuja Creaseless Concealer – this is a new product, and is QVC only until next year.  It’s much different than the Calming Concealer, which comes in a stick.  While I like the texture of the Calming Concealer, it really doesn’t provide great coverage.  This new Creaseless Concealer however, is thick and rich and covers it all.  It’s based on the \wonder child of the Amazon, maracuja oil – or passionfruit oil – which is said to have properties that will make you look like Marilyn Monroe.  Or at least they tout it as such.

While I really like this concealer, it is SERIOUSLY full coverage so be prepared.  I ordered Medium because that’s what I wear in tarte foundation, but it might e a touch dark.  I will keep playing with it.

  • 12-Hour Wear Clay Blush in Peaceful, a soft rose.  I currently own three of these blushes and i love love love them.  I have the Glisten, form the first 8th Wonder of the Amazon collection (a previous AD shipment), and recently purchased Blushing Bride and Blissful recently.  Love!
  • Amazonian Clay Waterproof Cream Shadow in Shimmering Taupe – I haven’t used any of tarte’s cream eyeshadows, I’ve been playing a lot with otehr brands recently.  I’m still trying to work with them, but I really like this one.
  • Amazonian Clay SmolderEYES eyeliner in Fig, a plum brown- WOOO!  a perfect perfect purple brown.  It doesn’t budge!  I love the shade, it shimmers with gold light, and is a deep plummy brown.
  • Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara in Black- this is my GO TO mascara so i’m happy to have a back up!
  • Lip Luster in Sweet, a peach pink-I now own four of these!  LOVE!
  • Blush brush
  • Shadow brush
  • Sharpener
  • Makeup bag

You have the option of ordering this on Auto-Delivery, which will bring you new collection sin October and February.  I always order on AD, because I never want to be the odd man out if I miss a collection!  You can of course, cancel or delay a shipment at any time.  You can also return it if you hate it, and still get the next shipment.

This kit has a retail value of over $150, so to get it at the preview price of $50 is a STEAL.

Gettin’ buzzed!

Are you feeling it?  Bzz bzz.  That’s the buzz of a released kit from Bare Escentuals, called Buzzworthy. This kit got a ton of great press last year when it was first released, and as it was recently re-released during the May QVC shows, I decided to pick it up.

Inside, you’ll find:

  • A unique, double-ended lipstick and lipgloss duo, with Sticky Buns stick, and Muffin Top gloss (only available in this kit)
  • Well-Rested for Eyes (eyeshadow size).  Now I have at least 3 other containers of Well Rested but this little gem is a genius.  It’s a creamy yellow color, and while it started it’s life as an eyeshadow, it’s an amazing multi tasker that fights both redness and dark circles.  I have an extra large container and use it every day!  Ever had a red nose from allergies or a cold?  Well Rested is your cover.
  • Glee Radiance all over face color.  I have a large jar of Glee AOFC from a million years ago, but this is slightly different.  The Radiance is a dewy soft look, while my old Glee is more of a pop of color.  Love this!
  • High-Shine Charisma eyeshadow (only available in this kit), a pink champagne shade.  Sparkle baby, sparkle!  This is the previous packaging for the high shine formula, and honestly, I prefer it.  Those spring loaded tubes are TERRIBLE.  I will be reviewing the colors I have shortly.  The formula is not as chunky as the Extreme Glimmers, and not as creamy as the regular shadow.  It’s somewhere in between, with noticeable glitter.
  • Popular eyeshadow, a plum shimmer shade.  I’ve heard a lot about this shade, which is a reddish plum.  Some people find it a bit hard to wear, but I think if you do it right, it’s gorgeous!

All of this is $36 and is a QVC exclusive.  Considering that each eyeshadow is normally $13, and the high shines are now $16, you are getting a great value – essentially, the Glee and Lipstick are free.

Clockwise from top left: Popular, Eye Bright, Restore, High Shine Charisma

From left, foiled on bottom dry on top: Restore, Popular, High Shine Charisma, Eye Bright

Today, I started with Benefit Primed and Poreless primer, followed by Bare Escentuals Matte Foundation in Golden Fair.  I spot concealed with It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye, followed by Well Rested to hide some redness.

For my eyes, I used the flathead shadow brush to pat high Shine Charisma from lid to crease, buffing it off the brownbone a bit.  Next, I added Popular in the outer 1/3 of the eye.  For definition, I added Restore to the crease (this is from the Naturally Luminous collection), popped the inner corner with Eye Bright, and lined with Urban Decay Bourbon 24/7 liner and some mascara.

I added a pop to my cheeks with original Glee, followed by a sweep of the Glee Radiance, and used the lipgloss.

I really enjoy the colors in this kit, and it can be strong for evenigns, or light for summer days.

Don’t miss out, order yours today at QVC!

Mally Mally Mally!

So I’ve been on a bit of a shopping frenzy lately, what with all the things I’ve been reading and seeing around the blogesphere.  I’ve been buying a lot of product, simply so I can test things and out and find what works for me.  Primarily, this means a LOT of Bare Escentuals, but I’ve also been digging in to other brands to find out what works for my skin, and what stays on my face.

I’ve got some persnickity skin you see; it’s winter, and it’s dry and chilly.  Yes, even us San Francisco types get cold!  Granted, 35 degrees is about as chilly as we get usually, but still…as a result my face has several dry, flakey patches, but an oily nose and T-zone.  This makes it complicated to find the right products!  My biggest challenge is finding eye makeup that stays put.  Crayon / pencil type liners always end up on my cheeks, usually a few minutes after I apply them.  I’ve also been experimenting with eye primers, but that’s a story for another blog post.

Recently, I read a preview of the Mally Beauty Today’s Special Value (TSV) somewhere – I honestly can’t remember where, and I figured what the heck, I’ll check it out, because Mally claims her eye makeup is “bulletproof”.  This is exactly what I need!  I went ahead and ordered the kit on pre-sale and waited anxiously for it to show up.  This week, it finally did.  I’ve been wanting to try some Mally products for a while, and ordered the Poreless Face Defender in January to try it out.  I’m still playing with it, but I do like the mattifying effects it has on my face.

After my usual foundation, I started in with the Mally Share the Love TSV has 10 pieces, and was $59.94 when I purchased it.  I opted for Auto Delivery, and will get new collections in July and November.  The first collection includes:

  • Eye Amplifying Shadow Liner in Chestnut (a brown shade)
  • Lip Magnifiers in Punch (pink) and Blush (sheer pink)
  • Illuminating Blush in Pink Satin
  • Poreless Perfection Shaded Skin Finisher
  • Evercolor Automatic Eyeliner in Deepest Brown
  • Two Volumizing Mascaras in Black
  • Double-ended 24/7 blush brush
  • Mini kabuki brush
  • Sharpener
  • Organza pouch
  • Kindness is the New Black tote

For my eyes, I completely forgot to put some primer on (which was my mistake and might impact this review – so I’ll follow up with a primer).  So this is really a good test, beginning with the Evercolor Eyeliner.  At the moment, this product only comes in kits.  I really like this color, a deep dark brown but not black.  Because it’s an automatic pencil, it’s very thin, and easy to get right down on the lashline.  My only issue with this, is that it started to smear a bit before it set, but that’s no biggy.   Next, I added the Eye Amplifying Shadow Liner in Chestnut.  This is a fat pencil, which is a brand new product (only available in this kit right now), in a shimmering bronze/brown.  I love this color!  It’s a bit dark for all over color for me, but I used it in the crease, and then smudged it with the smudger tip and my finger to give some definition.  Then I snuck in some of the Tarte eyeshadow in Shimmering Sand as highlighter, and blended it out with the Chestnut.  Finally, a coat of the Volumizing Mascara.  The mascara does a great job in one coat, and doesn’t clump or stick together, two things that are important to me.

Next, I added some Illuminating Blush in Pink Satin. The color is a bit bright, but once I blended it out on my cheekbones, and added the illuminator, I really liked it.  The illuminator is a whitish powder with sparkle, that I used as a highlighter on my high cheekbones and other parts of my face.  I also used it to blend out the Pink Satin blush, to look more natural like a sun kissed cheek.  I will say that the big problem I had with the blush is the brush is terrible.  One side is meant to be used with the illuminator, and looks like a large flathead foundation brush.  The other side is a small, dense, fluff brush.  unfortunately, the illuminator end of the brush just packs on and clumps with the flat brush.  The fluff brush picks up entirely too much product.  So that is a fail for me.  The color however, is a win.

The finishing touch is the worldwide launch of the Poreless Perfection Shaded Skin Finisher, which is of course – NOT A POWDER!  If you’re a Mallynista, you know that she loathes powder because it can get cakey and ashy, particularly on women of color.  I used to, back in my teens, wear such things, but now I really only wear mineral foundation or skin finishers.  This product is great!  It’s VERY similar to BE Mineral Veil in my opinion, but this has some key differences.  The Skin Finisher has several silicone derivatives, which both set your makeup and give you a luminous glow.  This product smooths over your makeup and makes your skin look polished, while evening out your pores and sealing the deal.  It’s formulated free of talc, fragrance, oils and parabens which is great for sensitive skin gals like me.  The ingredients are: Silica, Dimethicone, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Lauroyl Lysine, Chlorphenesin, Potassium Sorbate, Tetrasodium EDTA, Mica, Iron Oxides.  If you don’t know what those are, read on…It does NOT contain corn starch, which is one of the ingredients in most powders that can cause that cakey / chalky appearance.  Instead, it’s primarily a powdered silicone primer of sorts – which locks your makeup in place and smooths over the look.

So here we are, 5 hours in, and while the eyeliner is travelleing a bit (my own fault since I didn’t wear a primer) the color is still there.  There is no creasing or fading and my eyes look as good as they did this morning at 7:30!

Please ignore the lovely dark circles...I clearly need some sleep!

Would I buy it again?  Probably.  I wish that some of the products were sold separately, but at $5.90 per piece it’s really a steal.  I would definately buy the eyeliner and shadow stick again, simply for the staying power alone, I would buy it again.  In fact, I’ll get two more collections this year, so I DID buy it again!

But again, please – make these things refillable.  The blush system case could easily be reused.

The Queen of Hearts, and other stories…

Last month, as I was reading my beauty blogs one day, I came across Musings of  Muse’s review of the Tarte TSV on QVC.  Having never tried the brand, but hearing great things about it and the new trend to use Amazonian (Kaolin) clay in products, I decided to purchases it.

It arrived in my hot little hands yesterday, and contains the following:

  • Tarte Amazonian Clay Balancing Foundation SPF 15 (Your Choice of Fair, Light, Medium, Tan or Deep) This is a new product to the line, and from what I can tell isnt’ sold anywhere else yet.
  • Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Wear Powder Blush in Glisten
  • Tarte Amazonian Clay Long Wear Eye Shadow Quad (Includes Shimmering Cocoa, Shimmering Bronze, Shimmering Sand, and Shimmering Plum)
  • Tarte EmphasEyes Amazonian Clay Waterproof Eyeliner in Golden Plum
  • Tarte Pureoptic Moisturizing Lip Gloss in Golden Pink
  • Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Volumizing Mascara in Black
  • Tarte Foundation Brush
  • Purple Makeup Bag

(for swatches please see Musings of a Muse)

The complete set sells for $48.36, and I checked a few sources and the other foundations are $32-36, so for 12 more bucks you get eyeshadow, a GORGEOUS brush (which I can’t find for sale anywhere else), an eyeliner, mascara, and blush.  Pretty good deal, IF you use the foundation.  You can also get updated color kits in June and in October via the auto delivery option (A216307)

First of all, it came in a great little makeup bag, in a blister pack that was NOT sealed so tight that no one could get in.  SCORE one for QVC!  I first tried the foundation last night, to see how it would react on my skin.  Sadly, I have to say the foundation is a MISS for me because it accentuated my dry patches, and settled in my pores, making me look terrible.  I tried again this morning, and used the brush to buff it out as suggested, but still – the foundation just dried me out and made me look terrible.

However, I LOVE the eyeshadow colors!  With the Golden Plum liner, in automatic pencil form, I was a bit worried because I don’t do well with pencil liners – they end up on my chin by noon.  HOwever, even though this one did smudge a bit, it’s waterproof so after it dries it’s pretty solid.  The color is AMAZING!  It is a very subtle, natural look, which I love for work or daytime.

Over that I used the eyeshadow quad with Shimmering Sand as an all over lid color, adding Shimmering Plum in the crease.  I dusted Shimmering bronze over the outer corner to seal the deal.

I also really like the Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara.  It didnt’ clump or smudge on my cheeks and dried quickly.

So the verdict is: MIXED!

3 out of 5 compacts, only because I really don’t like the foundation which is a large part of the set.  I have to try the foundation a few more times to decide if I want to keep it or not.  I might try to sell / trade the foundation in LIGHT if anyone is interested.  It might not be the right thing for my skin, as it seems best suited for Combo / Oily skin, whereas I have Dry / Oily T zone skin.

The eye makeup gets

 4 out of 5 stars

Over all, I really like the products, and would recommend you give them a shot.

Auto Delivery including a June and October shipment with new seasonal colors (blush, eye quad, lipgloss, and eyeliner all come in new shades with each shipment)
