Bare Escentuals

I’m feeling well rested at last!

Have you been sleeping lately?  Well, no, me neither.  Life’s little stressors, insomnia, work, all the things that get to us – or even sometimes just your body’s natural chemistry or genetic luck of the draw, sometimes we need help to hide those dark circles.

There are dozens of brighteners and highlighters out there, but the best of them actually counteracts the blue black color of those shadows.  Bare Minerals makes one of the better products out there, a loose mineral powder called Well Rested.  Well Rested, in the original loose form, is a creamy mineral powder with a pale buttery yellow color.  The yellow counteracts the blue, and brightens up those dark places.

Unfortunately, if you’re like me and you’re getting a touch long int he tooth, or if you have dry skin, the loose minerals can tend to settle in the cracks and creases adn make the under eye area loose crepey and wrinkled.  No thanks!

Thank goodness the team at BE has coem up with a fantastic solution!  Well rested now comes in a creamy liquid form, in the now iconic (from other manufacturers) pen.  This new formula is translucent but still has the yellow tone which is important for counteracting dark areas.

The creamy liquid is a blend of mineral powders, as well as antioxidents like Vitamin E, which brightens, lightens, and treats those areas.  You can use it before your mineral foundation, or after your liquid foundation to illuminate areas you want to highlight.  The benefit of the pen format is that you can reapply at any time during the day for a little boost.

Keep in mind this is not a concealer.  If you have serious darkness, or problem areas, you will need to use a concealer in addition to the brightener.  I also own Touche Veloutee, which is a brightening concealer.  While not as natural as Well Rested, that product is truly a concealer.  Well Rested is intended as a brightener only and not to provide full coverage.  Well Rested has no shimmer so it’s a great way to subtly highlight and is half the cost of any other similar product.

Note:  I did take pictures but you really can’t see it on camera.  It’s a very subtle highlight, illuminating glow without shimmer.  I plan on experimenting with mixing this in iwth my traditional Well Rested for a creamier coverage.  Other similar products that I will try:  Tarina Tarantino Eye Dream Hyperlight; Mally Perfect Prep Undereye Brightener

The Well Rested Face & Eye Brightener is available at QVC.  1 fluid ounce is $22.  Since a little goes a long way, this should last you a while.

Happy glossing!

It’s Glitzy!

Merry Christmas!  Well ok, it’s a tad early for that, but since all of the holiday kits are out in stores, urging you to get dressed up and put on a glam face, I thought I’d join the club.

I have been a holiday beauty kit shopping fiend lately!  At the Sephora  Friends & Family sale last month, I picked up the Bare Escentuals Putting on the Glitz Kit, and I’m happy I did.  This is a lovely kit, very subtle but sparkly and festive.

This kit is a Sephora exclusive, and might remind you a bit of last year’s Shimmer and Shine.  It contains 10 pieces, for $54.  That right there is a deal, but I nabbed it at 20% off, making it less than $5 per piece.

The items include (swatched at right, top to bottom)

  • Prime Time Primer Shadow in Toasted Almond (iced coffee).  This primer is just a teesy tiny bit away from the Champagne Toast, another personal favorite of mine.  It is just a tad darker and is a fantastic all over eye color, as well as a primer.
  • Glamtastic eyeshadow (warm champagne luster)  This is a glowing champagne tint, but isn’t too sparkly
  • Glitz eyeshadow (smoky plum sparkle) a deep plum purple brown
  • Gorgeous blush (petunia pink) – a big POP of pink!
  • Luxe Radiance AOFC (apricot pink) – this is a bit too pink to be an AOFC for me but makes an excellent blush. If you mix this with Gorgeous you get a baby pink that makes you glow.

You also get a mascara, a Cheek & eye brush and a clutch.  Included are an eyeliner and pretty amazing as well.

The jury is still out on the Round the Clock Eyeliners for me - they are better than the B&B liners, which just slide off my face in a hot mess, but they aren’t as holy grail to me as Tarte  or Urban Decay.

I like the new Pretty Amazing lipgloss, which is a full color gloss as well; this is a pale shimmering pink.

All of this is wrapped up in a sparkly pink bag for you to take with you; this matches the gold theme of all the holiday kits this year, and is a great way to mix and match the 8.0 Readys or the TSV Ready Duo

Get that ipod out, the playlist is ready!

Ahh fall is here; it’s cold in the morning, gets dark before 7pm, and…it’s 75?  Yep, that’s right – Indian Summer is in full swing here in San Francisco.  That said, I’m excited about some of the Bare Escentuals special holiday collections.

There are two 8.0 Ready palettes (eight pan collections) in this season’s gold compacts, which were released earlier this mornth.  The pretty little palettes are a fun way to carry a great collection of color with you, including a brush and sponge tip applicator, for $40.

The Playlist features eight differnet colors:

  • Pumped,  a cocoa sparkle
  • Chart Topper, pewter silver
  • Max Volume, smoky jade
  • Louder, burnished copper
  • One Hit Wonder, butter chiffon
  • Most Requested, burgundy sparkle
  • Remix, burnished gold
  • Speaker Box, shimmering gunmetal
I love this compact!  There are endless combinations you can make with the colors; there are at least 2 highlighter shades, and you can do much more than the 4 coor combinations listed on the BE site..

The shadows themselves are creamy, with excelelnt staying power.  They go on like a cream, but react like a powder.  When I did not wear primer on this day, I found that the shadows lasted at least 6 hours on their own with out tocuhups.  Add a little primer, and they will last all day.
At first glace, I was unsure of this palette becuase the colors are quite bold  But, as with any Ready shadow, you really need a VERY light touch when applying them.  Don’t swipe yoru brush, just lightly dab it in the color.  The amount of product will be plenty.  You can always layer more on if you need it!
I added the 10pm Round the Clock liner from the Bare Luxurry TSV, and Tarte’s Gifted Mascara.
I have to say I’m a bit dissapointed with the Round the Clock, as it ended up on my lower lids, travelled and smudged, after just a few hours.  I will continue playing iwth them, but for now, I’lll stick with other waterproof liners for these baby blues.
The Playlist delivers all that and then some, and if you have any BE punch cards, be sure to use your discounts to make this a very affordable addition to your collection.  The shadows will last you a long time and you can use any other Ready palette or your favorite loose minerals to blend with these colors.

I also purcheased The Cocktail Hour, which is a smoky purple palete, and I can see myself combining these two soon!

What do you think?

Holy Newness Batman! Just the Bare Escentuals…

Remember how I told you to hold on to your wallets for Sephora’s Friends and Family Sale coming up October 20 – November 2?  Well you might want to continue to hold them for the Bare Essentials Friends and Family Sales, set to be sometime in December.

Why should do do this you ask?

Well, my sources have informed me that there is a LOT.  I mean a MACK truckload lot of holiday sparkle this year!

I’m in the nude for…

Bare Escentuals!  Last weekend, BE was on QVC for a marathon of shows.  Included in the QVC exclusive kits was Nude Attitude, a 5 piece neutral kit which include the coveted (and hard to find) Nude Beach Matte eyeshadow.  Also included were a Charbronze Big & Bright eyeliner, In the Nude Matte eyeshadow,  100% Natural Lipgloss in Nude, and Applause Blush, a deep nude canyon color for $36.  Unfortunately, it sold out on the air.  I expect that some of the components will show up again (Charbronze is open stock for example) given the popularity, but I am glad I snatched this one up!

Nude is HOT right now!  You probably know this, but I love my nude kits, including the UD Naked Palette and other nude looks.  They are the easist to master, and are fairly goofproff, as well as great for every day.

This kit arrived a few days ago, and I decided to pop it up a little today with Queen Tiffany Matte, Celestine, and Pretty Amazing in Free Will, a pink nude, with Starr Buxom over it to give it a touch of color.  Healthy Radiance to contour, and the new Advanced Clear Radiance over Golden Fair Matte foundation.  This gives me a nice golden glow, which looks healthy without tanning.

Wowzah!  This could be my new everyday look, with various color changes for the countour crease.

What do you tink?  How do you nude?

  • Nude Beach Matte is a soft sandy matte nude – foiled on the lid.
  • In the Nude is a deep brown nude – in the crease.
  • Queen Tiffany Matte is a chocolate plum nude – in the outer v and over In The Nude on crease.
  • Celestine is a sparkling champagne nude -used to blend.
  • The Sure Thing is an almost matte plum brown – wetlined.
  • Turn On – is a pink nude highlighter – used on browbone and inner corner.

Your reputation won’t be tarnished with these!

Blackmail, Busted, Caught on Tape, Wardrobe Malfunction

I love lipgloss.  We have a close, personal relationship!  In particular, I love Buxom lipglosses, MAC lipsticks, and Stila Lip Glaze.

But, there is a new kid on the block!  Well new to me anyhoo.  First, let me start by telling you how obsessed with tarte’s lipstains!  There are three different lines of the LipSurgence lip products: Natural lip luster, Natural lip tint, and Natural Matte lip tint.  I have to say, the matte has a staying power that really holds up to the word stain.  I put on HOPE this morning, had coffee, at a peace, and ti’s STILL there!  The luster is more of a true gloss, and wears off easily but I love the feeling of it.

All three have a delicious minty feeling and taste, and are formulated to provide moisture your lips.

So with that said, I am happy to announce that the Bare Escentuals Buxom franchise is back with another new proudct!  This one seems like a great combination of my favorite Buxom Lip Glosses, and the Buxom Lip Sticks (in a pencil).

The Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Tarnishes claim to be a lip plumping and moisturizing lip stain.  Hrmm sounds familiar right?  Didn’t I just describe tarte’s lipsurgence?  Well yes, but…wait there is more!  Buxom’s primary franchise is the Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Polish, those tingly little lipglosses.  Then, there are the Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Sticks, a lipstick in a pencil with that same Buxom tingle.  But now, there are the Lip Tarnishes!

According to the company,

Buxom® Big & Healthy™ Lip Tarnish takes color to a new level. It tints like a stain, shines like a gloss, moisturizes like a balm, and plumps like nobody’s business. Your full color and shine isn’t going anywhere. Lips remain soft and supple thanks to an infusion of emollients and vitamin E for lasting moisture. The cooling and tingling sensation reminds you that your pout looks plumped to mega-proportions. A built-in sharpener keeps your creamy pencil perfectly prepped for whatever shenanigans arise.

As with any Bare Escentuals product, there are no parabens, phalates, or other ickems.  The first four colors are all very different, and I think I might be in love!

  • Blackmail is a blackberry black cherry purple
  • Busted – a bold red I’m proud to wear
  • Caught on Tape – A bright fuscia in the tube
  • Wardrobe Malfunction – a 60s pop of bubblegum pink

I adore lip products that moisturize and feel good, but also pack color punch.  That would be why I am growing my collection of the tarte lipsurgances.  The matte versions of the tarte product last for quite a while on my lips ,but are still moisturizing.  The glossy versions don’t last but are also moisturizing.

The Buxom version does pack a mighty wallop of color.   The darker colors really do stain, and last for several hours.  They are also moisturizign and feel great on your lips, with that tell tale Buxom Tingle.  Plumping?  Well maybe not.

I love these new sticks, and for $18 compared to the $22 tarte price tag for the same amount of product, these are a great addition to you lip arsenal.  My only complaint is that the bulky built in sharper makes the pencils unbalanced and can be difficult to control.  Take the sharpener out, and it’s a compact pencil perfect for your purse.  I just wish they came in a twist up instead of a pencil you need to sharpen, because you really waste a bit of product trying to get it to a place you can apply.

I can’t wait to see more color selections of these!  They are not a replacement for the Buxom lipsticks, which really are lipsticks and quite opaque, but rather a long lasting more pigmented gloss in a stick.  Winner winner!

You won’t be disappointed.  These are a Sephora exclusive, so get down to one and try today!  Don’t foreget ot use ebates (affilliate link)  to save 4%-12% (amount varies).

Happy Glossing!

I feel the vibe!

If there is one thing I can’t resist, it’s a deal!  I’ve had my eye on this kit for a while, and when a friend was headed to a Bare Escentuals outlet, I asked her to pick it up for me.  WOWZAH!  I was lucky to hit a sale that the outlet had, making the once $35 kit from QVC (which, for two eyecolors, a blush,a nd a liner, is still a deal) about $12.  Steal!

This kit contains:

  • mini Light Show, a creamy sparkle
  • mini Smoky Violet, grey purple
  • mini B&B liner in teal, makes your eyes POP!
  • E/S size Haute Pink Blush , a bright azalea pink
  • Plumtini lipgloss, a dark cranberry, pinky beauty but very sheer.

As I said, this is a fantastic value, but more that that you can create many looks with one kit.

For this look, I started with BE foundation.  I lined my eyes in UD 24/7 liner pencil in Electric, a shocking bright blue green, over Tarte EmphasEyes in Fig.  This was my best approximation at the Teal in the kit, and I adore the way it made my eyes POP!  Today I made my own shadow liner to be a Black Sea/Teal replacement, using Crown, Utopia (which I am sad to say landed on the floor, sob!), a bit of this a bit of that.  I think I have a great dupe, since the B&B liners don’t work for me.

Next, I foiled Light Show on the lid, buffing it dry to the crease.  Finally, a touch of Smokey Violet in the crease, and Flawless Definition Volumizing Mascara to finish, with Haute Pink on the cheeks and Plumtini on the lips.
The BE Outlets are an excellent source for kits and past colors, and I highly reccomend you join Mineral Madness to have access to the stock lists.

What do I think?  BUY IT before it’s gone for good!  The shadows can go from a soft day look to a bold evening look.  The Violet can be used as a liner, or worn over a black liner for a pop of color.  The Light Show is a universal cream shimmer.  You can’t NOT have this kit.

Some items recently added were hugely popular on both QVC and at Sephora:
Gold Rush Kit, Naturally Luminoius, Brush with Genius.

Happy shopping!  I mean glossing…

Perfect in green

Today, I am wearing the third installment of the Holiday 2011 Auto Delivery Collection from Bare Escentuals, The Perfect Gift.  In this shipment, you will get, in that cute little hatbox:

  • Tinted Hydrating Mineral Veil
  • Appreciate Blush
  • Enjoy Eyecolor, a golden yellow chiffon
  • Savor Eyecolor, a deep sage shimmer
  • Big & Bright eyeliner in Bronze
  • Flawless Definition Volumizing Mascara in black
  • Pretty Amazing Lipcolor in Courage, a warm strawberry and one of my favorite PAs.

I don’t use the B&B liners, so that was tossed in my swap bin right away.

On my face:

  • Too Faced Primed & Poreless
  • BE Original in Light
  • Summer Bisque as concealer
  • Faux Tan to contour
  • tarte natural eye primer
  • blush and eye colors from the kit
  • Buxom Suede Lashliner
  • tarte Amazonian Clay liner in Shimmering Sage (I think!)
  • Buxom Amplified Mascara
  • Pretty Amazing lin Courage
  • Brandi Buxom

With my golden fair skin and blue eyes, I wasn’t sure that the green tones would for me.  Happily, I love the gold and the green is a nice accent color.

I foiled the Enjoy all over the lid, and buffed it out with Enjoy dry to just above the crease.  Using a small brush, I applied Savor in the crease.  For liner, I started with Buxom Suede lashliner, followed by the sage tarte liner, finishing off with the Amplifed mascara.  I love the way it brings out my eyes!

What do YOU think of PG3?

Eye Wish!

Today, I’m working from home but I decided to go bold anyway.

I started with Bare Escentuals Prime Time primer (regular) and Matte Foundation in Golden Fair.

Then, I used Benefit Dallas boxed bronzer, and BE Smitten blush, a pale delicious pink.

On my eyes, I used Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden, followed by the I Wish Collection by Bare Escentuals.
The colors in this collection POP!  One of them in particular, Lucky Penny, has been unavailable for months and was a cult favorite amongst BE addicts.  For $26, you get all three full size colors which is a steal.

I started by patting Dandelion, a pale yellow shimmer all over my lids, buffing it up to just above the crease.
next, I added Lucky Penny, a deep copper with purple gold undertones, in the outer 1/3 and crease.

I added Buxom Lashliner in Leatherette first, and then I wetlined with a deep blue green shade called Shooting Star, and used Sydney (from the Destination Sydney kit, a pale sand matte) to blend the colors.
Finally, I added Buxom Mascara and Pretty Amazing Lipcolor in Savvy. Savvy was previously only available in a kit, but now can be found at Nordstroms and soon at boutiques.

Happy Friday and happy glossing!

Back to basics

It’s been one of those weeks, where things get out of control time wise, and I slack off on my daily routine.  That, coupled with TERRIBLE allergies, and I haven’t been wearing much makeup.  Today, I make it a point to do my face and I rather like the results!

First, on my face, I have:

Too Faced Primed and Poreless primer.  I can’t say enough good things about this product; it’s my go to primer right now, and works fabulously with mineral foundation.  It has a touch of color, but just enough to even out my skin tone.  The texture smooths out my fave and make it foundation ready, while controlling the oil slick on my nose. $30 at Sephora + more

Editors note:  Please forgive me.  I’ve been referring to this as Benefit’s P&P!  User error!

Bare Escentuals Original Foundation in Light.  I decided that I really loved the way my face looked after my last Master Class, so I’ve been using more Original than Matte lately.  It adds a glow and lightness to my face.

Laura Gellar Real Deal Concealer in medium.  I’m still trying to decide what is my favorite concealer, but my face felt like it needed a more creamy product today.

Bare Escentuals Blush in Smitten, a beautiful poppy pink.  Just a smidge goes a long way on the apples of my cheeks, swept up tot he hairline and blended.

Bare Escentuals All Over Face Color (AOFC) in Healthy Radiance.  I used this instead of a bronzer, because the color is close to a bronzer but it adds a bit of shimmer.  I blended this in to the blush, and swept it on where the sun hits my face.  Honestly, I was planning on wearing Benefit Dallas, but I couldn’t find it!

On my eyes I have:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance.  This is my go to eye prmier right now, since it doesn’t make them look dry or cracked, and doesn’t irritate.

I patted on Bare Escentuals Enlightened, a golden cream shimmer color, on my lids, and buffed it up to the brow.  Enlightened is a BE Cares eyecolor, which supports the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). LLS is the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services.

Then I added Demure, a medium deep purple in the outer 1/3 of the lid.  This was a color in my latest BE Eye Club shipment, and it’s gorgeous.  But then again, I am a sucker for purple.

For added depth, I added a bit of High Shine Moonshine over the Enlightened on the lid.

Then, using High Shine Vapor (in the pot from the Shimmer & Shine kit, not hte one in a tube) I wetlined, finishing with tarte LIghts, Camera, Lashes mascara (my favorite).

On my lips, I used a touch of Vanessa full color Buxom.

I’m glad I got back to my routine today, because I love the way ti came out.  A bit of sparkle, subtle and work apprpriate.

Happy glossing!
