Feeling Inspired!

I’ve been in a rut lately.  Running three blogs, a full time job, a full time job that’s not paid writing about wine, and life just have a way of bogging you down.  But I’m back!  And I’m feeling inspired.  After reading a friend’s blog post about how she creates a weekly beauty basket, I am following suit.  I am still working on my Project Ten 10, but I’ve changed it up a bit.

Typically, the night before or in the morning before I pop in the shower, I pull some things that I haven’t used in a while and put them out.   If I’m very good, I’ll have a bunch of stuff lined up for the week.  Mindy does a better job of this and I’m going to make a special effort to get my Beauty Box ready every Sunday night.  What will be in it?

  • Project 10 pan items
  • New items
  • neglected items

So this week, what I’m going to put in my box:

  • MAC BB Cream.  Now I LOVE my Smashbox BB cream, and have been using it most days, but I found the MAC BB Cream at CCO for a lower price so I nabbed it.  For those that don’t know, CCO is Cosmetics Company Store and they stock items from Estee Lauder owned companies.  This includes Bobbi Brown (whooo!), MAC, Clinique, Estee of course, and now Smashbox – as well as a few other brands.  The best part is that my CCO has recently started carrying the Smashbox, and typically there are QVC kits that sold out or went to final quantities.  In retail, if you have less than minimum stock (often 100 kits or so) then you job them off to mass retails and discount stores.  You see this with the BE outlet stores a lot.  There are several CCOs around the country, and you can find them by looking at your local Premium Outlet mall.
  • Shadows sticks – I have a ton of shadow sticks and I really don’t use them.  Right now, I have 3-4 from Mally, all the Tarte sticksf rom the holiday kit, as well as the Mally, Tarte and Smashbox shadow liners.  I want to play with these more.
  • Mally Face Defender blushes & highlighters – I just got a new kit, and need to use these more.

What is in your weekly Beauty Box?
Special thanks to Mindy Smith for her inspiration from Health, Beauty, and Sunshiune!

A MAC Daddy Haul!

When I was a teenager (ok all the way through college) I was a MAC whore. I wore nothing but MAC, good bad ugly and the rest.  I went away from makeup for a long time, but recently, while passing through a town to the North, I stopped by the CCO.  For those of you who don’t know, CCO (Cosmetics Company Outlet) is an outlet store for Estee Lauder brands including Bobbi Brown, Clinique, and yes – MAC.

While I was browsing, I came across last holiday season’s “Highland Fling” collections.  Priced at $45 (Nordstroms), I paid $34.95 for the gift sets which contained a paint pot, a mineralize eye shadow duo, mini mascara, and lipglass in a cute Tartan plaid tin.  There were two kits, My Scottish Fling and Swinging Violets that I snatched up.  There was a third kit that I didn’t get, but I might run back and get that too; this is a screaming value, since the paint pot and eyeshadow alone are over $30.

I played with them today and am wearing:

  • UDPP in Eden
  • Paint Pot in Fresco Rose (limited edition)
  • Pink Split Mineralize eyeshadow duo (dark) in outer 1/3
  • Earthy Riches Mineralize Eyeshadow (grey) in crease
  • Paint Pot in Bare Study on brow bone
  • MAC Zoomlash Mascara
  • BE Frills as liner

Paint Pots: Soft Ochre, Bare Study, Stila Kitten, Painterly, Fresco Rose

kit contents

I really love paint pots.  I could have gotten away without a primer, but since I was wearing some very loose shadows, I wore one anyway.  These waterproof cream shadows make an ideal base instead of primer or with primer, and are very creamy and blendable until dried.  Once dried, they are stay proof and fairly creaseless.   I currently own Painterly and Soft Ocre and use them and all over bases often, since they smooth out the texture and color of my eyeslids.

L to R: Soft Ochre, Bare Study, Stila Kitten, Painterly, Fresco Rose

Stila came out with smudge pots, which are similar, but I find that smudge pots are better used as liners.  However, i included a swatch of Kitten here because it’s very close to Bare Study, just a bit pinker.

Fresco Rose is a beautiful deep rose shade that is a funn all over lid color.

MAC consistantly puts out beautifully holiday collections, and this is no esception  This was an excelent value, and I’m a bit of a CCO stalker now – because you never know what might show up there!  I love purples, and these colors are soft, and can be smoky or not.  Perfect for blue eyes.

The tin itself is a great size for lip pencils and eye pencils, which helps out my messy storage area.

Mascara:  Defines and seperates, no clumping!  This mascara is gorgeous.  I will definately be buying a full size tube – 5 stars

Mineralize Duos:  Can get muddy, hard to seperate the colors of the Earthy Riches – 4 stars

Paint Pots:  Tried and tested – 5 stars!

Over all:  4.5 stars.  This kit was a good deal at $49 but for the outlet price its a STEAL.

Happy MACing!
