It’s the truth!

Here we are, in Mid May.  It’s hard to believe that time has flown so fast!  Winter is waning and Spring and Summer are trying to come out to play. If your’e like me, winter can leave your skin a bit dead and dull, needed a bit of a pick me up.  Or perhaps you always need a little boost for your skin.

In a recent Test Tube, I received a large sample size (.5 oz) of the Ole Hendrickson Truth Serum Collagen Booster.  This vitamin C complex is said to helps smooth out lines and wrinkles and prevents further damage. It’s also loaded with antioxidants to fight off those nasty free radicals that make our skin look not so nice.

Can I just tell you, I love this serum!  It’s actually more like orange juice for your skin.  It’s not heavy like many serums, and absorbs instantly, leaving a bit of a tingly sensation.  I’ve been using this for a week, and while I dont’ have that many wrinkles to release, my skin is bright and soft, and I do notice it looks perkier.

So what’s the big deal about Vitamin C in skin care?  Vitamin C, and specifically L-Ascorbic acid, has been proven to promote the development of collagen.  Collagen production naturally decreases with age, and sun worshippers can also have a decreases in collagen.  Collagen is what gives your skin that bounce, elasticity, and youthful appearance, which is why as you age, you sage, get deep lines, and loose plumpness.

Vitamin C has also been shown to hep reduce lines, scars, and wrinkles.  I personally use maracuja oil on my hands and some small scars.  Maracuja oil is another potent Vitamin C source.  I prefer the Truth Serum for my face as it’s weightless.  The Truth Serum also has green tea extracts, which also help with aging and damage, licorice extract which evens skin tone, and hyaluronic acid which is a super moisturizer.

I highly suggest you check this out!  I will definately be repurchasing when I run out.  you can find it at QVC, Sephora, and better department stores for $48 per one ounce bottle.

Silk Road

I’m back!  Did you miss me?  I’m sorry I’ve been off the blog for a while, it’s been a crazy few months.  But here we go:

On Friday, I received the IT Cosmetics No Tug Silk Eyeliner trio.  This trio is brand new to QVC and contains three colors of liner, which is a new product for IT Cosmetics.

I am here to tell you, these little beauties have usurped my Holy Grail Urban Decay 24/7 liners!  Why?  Because even though there are only 3 colors right now, they are simply delicious.

These luxe liners glide on your lids with no pulling or tugging.  These babies are buttery and supple, but thanks to the silk that is included, they flex and bend with your every movement.  I did a test last night; I put swatches of these, and the corresponding shades of UD on my hand.  That was about 6pm; I went about my evening, and washed my hands a few times.  I did dishes.  I took a shower this morning.  Guess what liner was still on my hand looking fresh and beautiful?  IT.

The other key benefit to these new liners is that they are paraben free, and are chalk full of anti aging benefits like silk, collegen, and vitamins E and C.  For someone like me, who has a bit of gravity and droopy lids to deal with, that is important.

The trio includes a matte deep black shade, a matte rich brown shade, and a matte rich plum shade, and is $26 on QVC.  Since that makes them less than $10 each, it’s a steal.  The shades are richly pigmented but are also soft.  They look natural and are smudgeable and bendable for about 30 seconds before they set; once they set, they do not move.  I even smudged them on my lower lids – something I rarely do – and they stayed.  No raccoon eyes!

But don’t take my word for it, try them for yourselves!

Getting cheeky

You guys know that I have an obsession with the Tarte Amazonian Clay blushes. I love they way they last all day and how blendable they are.  But, move over you tarte!  Heather my love, there’s a new Sheriff in town!

I recently discovered the IT Cosmetics Vitality Cheek Flush.  This gorgeous blush, is a cheek stain and powder in one, and it really packs a punch.  Like all the other IT products, these were developed with plastic services, and is hydrating, brightening, and antiaging to boot!

Boosted with the Hydra-Luxe technology IT has become known for, the Vitality Flush has yummy ingredients like plum oil, cherry oil, hyaluronic acid, pomegranate, seaweed extract, grape seed, aloe, and jojoba.  WOW that was a mouthful!  What it means is that all of these things work together to treat, hydrate, condition, and nourish your skin.  And it stays on for days.  I mean days!

Since it’s talc free, there are no fillers.  that means this is pure amazing pigment, which gives you a pop of color, giving you a glow.  A little sweep, and you have a healthy glow.  A bit more, and you have just been out in the sun.

The brush that comes with the duo is plush and soft, and is angled specifically to help you get that pop on your cheeks, and blend it up in to your hairline for a natural look.  Just a smidge though, because this is powerful stuff!  The IT Cosmetics brushes are absolutely lovely.  while I wish they aweren’t made in China, they are so soft and luxurious, I cna’t bear to part with them.  The blush is make in the USA, with no parabens or other ickies.

There are three colors to choose from:

Pretty in Peony, a bright pop of rose pink with peach shimmer

Radiant in Rose, a deep rose pink

Magical in Mauve, an eggplant plum

L-R: Peony, Rose, Mauve

You can see these products in action on QVC this weekend!  A blush / brush duo is $35.  Check out Friday night beauty tonight!

You can also purchase the blushes on Beauty.com for $24.

You’re welcome!

Surprise!

Surprise!  Spring is nearly here.  Well, at least I keep pretending it is.  We finally got winter here in Northern California, and it’s cold and rainy.  But here is something to brighten your day beauties!

Tarte will have their next TSV on March 16th.  You can call it an early St. Patrick’s Day present.  In this kit, called Miracle of Maracuja, you will see old favorites and new tricks for your makeup bag.

You get:

  • Maracuja Oil – this is a personal fave.  I use it on my face, but also on my very dry winter skin.  it’ s oozing with Vitamin C so it’s a great anti oxidant and moisturizer.  This is a FULL SIZED product, so you really get the rest of the kit for free!
  • Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara – while this was ousted by the Tarte Gifted Mascara as my holy grail, it’s still very high on my list of faves
  • Maracuja Creseless Waterproof Concealer – yes, we’re still stocked up from the Glow Your Way to Gorgeous kits.  It’s not my favorite for winter, because it’s a bit too dewy, but we’ll see how it holds up in warmer weather
  • Bamboo Blush Brush – this is different than the blush brush that comes with the Amazonian Clay blushes, and it can also be used as a great powder brush.
  • **NEW** Amazonian Clay Beauty in the Box Eyeshadow Quad – One of these boxes is already available at Sephora, and it looks like they are rehashing the Benefit trend.  Jury is still out but I will keep you posted.  This box has Cloud Pink, Silver Mist, Purple Fog, and Dark Ash.
  • **NEW*** Maracuja Lipgloss – we’ve seen these recently in a set on the Q, and this is a color exclusive to the kit.  These glosses match the colors of the cult fave blushes, and this first introduction is Peaceful.
  • **NEW** Cashmere Waterproof Gliding Eyeliner – I’m a fan of the Amazonian Clay liners, so I’m not sure I want a new one, but this is another black liner.  Realy, who can’t have enough black liners?
  • **NEW** Maracuja Airbrush Bouncy Blush – Ok I’m not clear on what the trend in bouncy facial products is, but this is another one, similar to Maybelline Dream Bounce Blush and the new Mally Face Defender Blush.    This is Shimmering Poppy and the color looks beautiful.  THe spring trend is for a POP of color on the cheeks,a n this certainly looks like it will do it.

Single Shipments are available NOW for Insiders, and will be available March16th for everyone else.
The Auto Delivery is available HERE, with kits shipping in July and November with seasonal shades.

I’ve ordered mine and since I just got my big fat payment from Ebates, I upped the shipping so I should get it by Friday.

A Star is Born!

I admit it,  am powerless against the draw of a TSV!  When I first read about this Laura Geller kit, I wasn’t sure I really wanted to invest my money because I have so much Balance & Brighten, I could open a store.  But, when I looked at the gorgeous blush and the eye primer, I couldn’t resist.  This All Stars kit was designed for the Geller Girl who has everything already, and wants to pump it up.

In this kit, you get:

  • Champagne Spackle, a primer with a light glow
  • Balance and Brighten, a baked powder foundation
  • Blush and Brighten in Pink Grapefruit, a gorgeous light pink blush
  • Waterproof Eye Spackle
  • Baked Eyeshadow Duo in Amethyst/Starburst
  • makeup bag

Laura Geller is known for her primer, which she named Spackle because it “smooths over” the imperfections on your face and creates a flawless base.  The Champagne version is a light, airy glow, with teeny sparkles.  It’s very similar to Ethereal, which is slightly darker and not as sparkly.  Spackle hasn’t made my Top 5 primer list yet, but I need to play with it a bit more.  I find it very slick and slippery, and not my favorite.  C+

The Balance and Brighten is something I use almost every day these days, and it’s a rich, creamy powder foundation that can provide as little or as much coverage as you want.  I use it over my favorite BB cream for a flawless finish, or on it’s own for a light layer on a lazy day.  If you apply it with a damp makeup sponge, or a beauty blender, you get more of a creamy medium coverage.   I currently use Fair, but generally I am Regular (Medium).  The great thing about this product is that there are many colors in one, and you can pick out the colors you need or swirl them together to provide a multi toned product. A-

The Pink Grapefruit Blush and Brighten is gorgeous!  I love this color and I had seen it in another kit at Ulta and was looking all over for it.  This is not a full size, but it will still last you forever.  It’s a pretty bright pink in the pan but when you dust it on the apples of your cheeks, it is a sweet, natural flush.  Remember, a LITTLE goes a long way here!  A

One of my favorite items in the kit is the Waterproof Eye Spackle.  I am constantly looking for the perfect eye primer, as I have super sensitive eyes and many products don’t work for me.  Until recently, Too Faced Shadow Insurance was my fave, but recently, it has been causing me some irritation so I had to search for a new primer.  The eye spackle is in a clicker pen, which makes applying it a breeze.  Just a little dab, blended on your eye, will brighten it up and make it look awake and open, while providing a great base.  Use this, and your makeup will stay all day.  The only down side for this, is that sadly, it contains parabens.  Hopefully, they will be eliminated in the future.  B

The last item in this kit is an eyeshadow duo in Starburst/Amethyst.  The marble eyeshadows are always fun because they have so many colors swirled in to the one.  The Starburst is a pink, gold, bronze int he pan, but when you apply it you get a dark gold bronze glow.  The Amathyst is a purple and gold marble, and when applied it is a darker purple with a golden background.  These are girlie colors and the gold really warms them up.  Again, sadly, there are parabens in the eyeshadow.    B

This kit is $55 on QVC right now, and the TSV had an Auto Delivery option that will give us a new color of blush, eyeshadow and spackle in the future.

This kit is a great value, even if you only keep 2 of the pieces.  While I really didn’t need any more Balance & Brighten, it’s easy to sell that to a fellow makeup lover and make this kit worth every penny.  I have become a bit of a collector of Laura’s eyeshadows, because they are simploy beautiful and the marble effect gives you multiple colors in one.

Over all, I have to give this kit a B because several of the products contains parabens.  If they were eliminated, then this would be an A in my book!  The staying power of the blush and eyeshadow is phenomenal, and I love the baked effect.

Happy glossing!

This is IT!

Check it out!  IT Cosmetics is launching a new TSV on QVC this Friday, January 13th.  Included in the set are:

  • Bye Bye Under Eye concealer
  • Bye Bye Pores HD micro finishing powder
  • The new dual ended Concealer Brush for an airbrushed finish
  • Heavenly Luxe powder brush, which has become famous as the BEST foundation or powder brush out there.  This is the same brush that Tarte sells with its Amazonian Clay foundation, and I now0 own three of them.  I can’t get enough!
These products were developed with plastic surgeons to help your skin appear younger, and retain elasticity.  IT Cosmetics actually stands for Innovative Technology, and they contain specific ingredients to help your skin stay young.
The Bye Bye Under Eye Antiaging Concealer is a full-coverage concealer that delivers highly pigmented coverage that won’t crease or crack.  I use this concealer, and love the way a tiny dab will cover any spot you might have.  This is an ultra pigmented concealer, and the new brush allows you to blend it flawlessly.  I personally do not have the new concealer brush, which has at one end, and detailed brush, and a larger blush size fluffy brush at the other.  These tools allow you to flawlessly airbrush the finish after you apply the concealer.  I use a BE soft focus brush to achieve a similar result.  I really love this concealer, but my only negative mark is that it does contain parabens, which are a no no in my book.  Jamie, I love you, really I do, but please get rid of the ickies!
Promise:  A
Performance:  A
Verdict:  B since there are parabens.
The brush and concealer are $26 retail on QVC as a duo, and the concealer is $24 elsewhere.  This new brush is a Q exclusive.
Bye Bye Pores Antiaging Silk HD Micro-Powder is a colorless face-finishing powder that instantly blurs away pores, fines lines, and imperfections to give you a flawless, airbrushed finish. It absorbs oil and shine, sets makeup, and helps to diffuse the appearance of wrinkles and pores.  This is very similar to the Make Up For Ever HD Finishing powder, and they both contain primarily Silica.   Bye Bye Pores however has several added ingredients such as Collagen, Vitamins A, C, E & K, and silk, to create a plumping and smoothing appearance, and help ward off free radicals.  The vitamin K helps reduce discoloration.  In fact, Vitamin K is a primary ingredient in most dark spot removers!  This powder creates a flawless canvas.  I LOVE this powder!  There is no talc to make you look chalky, and no parabens.  Yay!
Promise:  A
Performance:  A- (it takes some practice to learn how to apply it without looking like Casper.  A teeny bit goes a long way)
Verdict: A-
This powder is $24 retail, or $38 on the Q with the brush.
Application tip learned from trial and error:  I take the little puff that is included, and puff a bit of powder on the back of my hand.  Then I take the big brush and dip it in my hand, buffing the powder on my face.
I own these products and I love them.  This is a great price for four pieces, and I would jump on the deal while you can!  I am tempted to order this just for the new brush and to stock up .
This is available for early ordering in two ways:
For Auto Delivery every four months:  A224066 or a one time shipment A220840, each $49.98 plus Tax/S&H.

I’m ready for my close up!

So much makeup so little time!  The month of December was a hard one for me, with some personal challenges that made it very difficult to keep up with blogging, and life in general.  Not only was it difficult for me to get motivated to write, but it was a challenge to even put my face on in the morning.  Have you ever had days, weeks, months like that? So, I decided that I”d pick myself up a bit and splurge on a Christmas present that I had had my eye on for quite a while.

Originally a TSV, The Smashbox Photo Op Mega Palette is a gorgeous red leather(ette) book, filled to the brim with tons of product.  It caught my eye when it was presented because Holly Mordini is such a creative genius, and because I have not really played with Smashbox a lot.  I wanted to find something that was easy to carry with me, but also offered a lot of choices.

After consulting with some of my beauty loving friends and reading many reviews, I still decided to wait it out.  At almost $100, it was certainly a splurge; it’s not like i NEEDED more makeup right?  But, finally I caved.  I am SO very glad I did!

This huge book of color contains 56 different eye shadows, thought I believe Vanilla is in there twice.  That’s ok by me actually, because it’s a perfect all over color.  Included in these 56 shadows are every one of the 16 unique Photo Op Trios, as well as select shadows from the Smokebox and Softbox eyeshadow collections.

In addition, you get 8 cream liners, 5 Brow Tech waxes, 2 blushes, 3 Softlight highlighters and 4 lipglosses.  WOW!

Today, I used one of the cream eyeliners, which I was a little worried about.  My past experience is that they are messy, and smudge too easily.  But I found that if I use a very thin layer, and close tot he lash line, I get a gorgeous pop of color.  I also used four colors to create a soft but defined eye.  I was not quite awake when I started doing my eyes, and so I completely forgot primer.  That being said, my color actually lasted almost all day.  The staying power on these shadows is amazing!

My favorite thing about this palette is that the shadows are grouped together for you in the Photo Op trios, so it’s easy to keep organized.  Additionally, there is an acrylic film overlay that names the trios and the shadow colors so it’s easy to find what you’re looking for if you’re trying to create a look you’ve seen on the web or in a video.  Genius!  These overlays are sturdy and attached, so you don’t have to worry about losing them in the future, sometime I’ve done with other products.  Ahem True Blood palette.

Admittedly the only downside I see for these shadows at  present is that while they are very richly pigmented and creamy, they are very dusty.  I have a love hate affair with powder shadows for this reason.  A very light sweep over the color and there is fall out ALL over the palette.  What a mess!  When you’re working with several lighter shades and somewhat sticky glosses, I don’t really want my darker shadows shedding over them.

I am pleased to report that there are no parabens in any of the products in this palette.  If you are concern

ed about the cosmetics dirty dozen, you’re safe here!Performance:  B+ because of the immense fall out from the shadows

Value:  A the price for each trio is $28, making the shadows alone $448 to collect them all.  Let’s see…yep!  STEAL!

Design:  A  I appreciate the opportunity to try additional products in this book, and that it has the acrylic overlays to both protect each leaf, as well as explain them.

Verdict:  Don’t delay!  Go out and haul this today!  I’m very impressed with the Smashbox offerings and expect that I will be purchasing more inf the future.  I am verklempt that I missed out on some of the other QVC deals this year since I didn’t know anything about Smashbox, but I don’t intend to miss that opportunity again.  Available now from QVC for $93.48 + S&H (Easy Pay available as well)

Coming up:  I’ll review the Smashbox Halo Finishing Powder.  Hint:  LOVE!

Pure Luxury!

As I previously mentioned, the Bare Escentuals Today’s Special Value for November 18th is a gorgeous kit which contains a new exclusive Ready Duo.  I received mine over the weekend, and was able to wear it yesterday.

This Bare Luxury kit contains a TON of stuff for the price, and the biggest challenge is deciding what to wear!  The Ready Duo in The Phenomenon is a great pair, with Golden Iris being a deep amber with a touch of shimmer, and the Azure Irish being a rich lavender.  These were both created specifically to show off my baby blues, and the amber makes them sparkle.  As with all of the Ready shadows, they are creamy and densely pigmented.  While I wore a primer, I have tried them without primers and they last over 8 hours with minimal movement.

The Round the Clock Waterproof Eyeliners are a new launch for Bare Escentauls, and one that I in particular and very excited for.  I have been unable to wear their B&B pencil liners int he past because they turn me in to a racoon.  These glide on easily and stay put for the most part.  I am a bit disappointed that I did have some travelling by the end of the day, but they are excellent formulations that you can sharpen as you use the pencil up.  The 10pm is a deep mocha shade, and the Noon is a rich Navy.

The Marvelous Moxie glosses are something of a cross between Buxoms and 100% Natual lipglosses.  While I am not a fan of the 100% Natural, I am a Buxom addict and these are a great addition.  There is a slightly less intense tingle in these plumpers, and a nice vanilla scent.  The Daredevil is perfect for fall, in a rich berry color.  The Wild One is a light peach perfect for day time.

Also included in this kit is the etheral Rose Gold Radiance.  It’s lighter than a blush, and darker than most radiances, so it makes a very pretty heavenly brush.

Rounding out the kit, the holiday brushes with gold handles are softer than most BE brushes in my opinion, and make a nice addition to your sparkle hoard.  They are made to go with the other holiday brush kits seamlessly.

I absolutely love this kit, and can imagine a ton of looks with it.  The ready shadows are bold, but the Golden Iris color can be a very simple day look, or you can punch it up a bit.  This will probably be one of my go to colors for a while.

The preview ordering is still up, so don’t miss out on this great kit!  For $68, you get a duo, 2 liners, 2 glosses, and 2 brushes.  Plus, new collections seasonally.  The kit will be presented on air on November 18th, and I look forward to watching how Leslie & Jessica use the kit, since it always provides me with inspiration.

Happy shopping!

Ho Ho Ho! The HOlidays are here!

If you’re like me, I’ve been overwhelmed with all the holiday newness and it keeps rolling in.  Luckily, there are plenty of sales to take advantage of, and you can slowly build your holiday collection over time.  That said, it’s the time of year when the Auto Delivery selection from QVC becomes overwhelming.  Specifically, Bare Escentauls is offering the first auto delivery Today’s Special Value that contains a Ready Shadow Compact.

I got your attention with that did I?

But wait!  There’s more!  Not only do you get a brand new, QVC exclusive Ready Duo in Golden Irish & Azure Iris, you also get two more brand spanking new products that have not launched yet.

First, there is the new Round the Clock Eyeliners.  While these are available in the RSVP and Away We Glow holiday kits, there are not yet available elsewhere. I  am super excited about these because if you are like me, I cannot use the B&B eyeliners because they are quite emollient and drip down my face.  My current addiction to UD 24/7 liners and Mally liners might be broken if these are anything like they promise.  In this  kit you get not one, but two liners – 10pm, a mocha color and Noon, a navy.

Next, we have a brand new lip gloss called Marvelous Moxie.  Leslie has been teasing us with this product on Facebook for a couple of months, but it will be great to add a new formulation to my collection.  I love my Buxom glosses, but I am not a fan of the 100% Natural Lipglosses.  I hope these hold up!  You will be getting two glosses, Wild Peach and Daredevil.

Let’s round out the kit with Rose Gold Radiance, a take on Rose Radiance with more shimmer for those holiday parties; you also get a shadow brush, a face brush and a bag.

Oh la la!

The best part, is that the TSV price is only $49.98 on early ordering and – there is Sleazy Easy Pay available, making this kit a bit over $20 (3 payments) which is easy for me to absorb; I will get off my butt 2 days a week and I’ve more than paid for that by not paying for parking.  You will also get new kits in April, July and October with new colors, to round out your READY collection.

Considering that you get a shadow duo, 2 liners, 2 glosses, an AOFC AND brushes, it’s a steal!

I can’t wait to get mien and share more with you!
